The business is currently a tenant but plans to purchase the property on which it sits from Bayville Farm Associates LLC. Taste Unlimited has had its Bayside shop since 1983, and President Jon Pruden said the building has reached the end of its life.

Recreational waters are monitored for bacteria using indicator organisms such as enterococci, the indicator of choice for estuarine and marine waters. Enterococci are a group of organisms used to determine the extent of fecal contamination of recreational waters.

Enterococci are a subgroup within the fecal streptococcus group. Enterococci are distinguished by their ability to survive in salt water, and in this respect they more closely mimic many pathogens than do the other indicators. Enterococci are typically more human-specific than the larger fecal streptococcus group. EPA recommends enterococci as the best indicator of health risk in salt water used for recreation and as a useful indicator in fresh water as well.

Incident Involving Young Child

An incident occurred this afternoon around 3:00 on Wake Forest St. that needs to be shared. A young boy had gotten off the school bus at the bike path. As he was walking towards his home, a grey car slowed down beside him and a young female in the passenger seat stuck her arm out the window and offered him something (he thought she said “candy”). He ignored her and continued walking to his home and arrived safely. He told his mother it was a car (not a SUV or truck) and the woman looked “nice” but he couldn’t see who was driving. The car was travelling towards Shore Drive. The police have been notified.

Needless to say, this could have been very serious so please remind your children to always be aware and not to talk to strangers.

Please remember to call 911 if you see a crime in action and call 385-5000, option 1, to report crimes after they have occurred or to report any suspicious activity. Also, please call or email the NW Coordinator so crime reports and suspicious activities can be shared with all of our residents.

“It’s going to be a nice addition,” he said, adding that recreational boaters can tie up to the floating dock and pick up or drop off passengers at the parking lot or use the restrooms. People who have smaller boats such as kayaks and canoes will be able to carry them to the floating dock and launch. Trailer-mounted boats will still use the ramps.

The 2,888-acre state park offers hiking and biking trails, beach access, camping and more. About 1.5 million people visit each year.

To help pay for trash bags and other supplies, T-shirts were sold. Everything the volunteers brought to designated zones was hauled away by city sanitation departments.

“There was a lot of big stuff out there that first year,” Pahno said of Pleasure House Point, where he has volunteered for all 25 events. In addition to cans, bottles and cigarette butts, there were appliances, construction debris and tires.

The first victim, a 23-year-old man, was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, but did require surgery.

Remember the lot that was clear cut of its live oaks located on Shore Drive near the Lesner Bridge?

CBF accepted the cut down live oak material.

Today it was milled into lumber to be dried then used inside & around the Brock Center.

Thanks to everyone who helped preserve the live oak material.

Shame the trees couldn’t be preserved but at least their beautiful lumber will live on & may inspire future generations.

Come on down to the old Ocean Park firehouse for burgers, hot-dogs, equipment tours, blood pressure checks, and see how many EMTs can fit in an ambulance! We will be on hand to answer questions about our station, the EMS system, and how you can get involved.

Plus the USCG Auxiliary flotilla 5-7 will be on hand from 9am till 12 noon for free boat inspections, if you need one or you know someone who would like to get their bot inspected in the morning have them drop by! We will be having people bring their boats to the parking lot to the right of the squad and we will have the USCG Aux volunteers on hand for the inspections. They will also be on hand to talk about boater safety, as the weather gets warmer we know our neighbors will be dusting off their winter boat covers and we want you to be safe out on the water. They will have life jacket demonstrations and coloring books for the kids.

“Since then, his home has become something of a landmark. Treesh said former mayors have visited and tourists make stops. A sailing club in Norfolk gave him extra masts, and he routinely awakens in the morning to find gifts –rope, propellers, old boat chairs – outside his door.”

His girlfriend Jerrie DeLozier is more optimistic. DeLozier calls Treesh “the artistic one” and herself “the logical one.” She acknowledged that some pieces of the Boat House, as it is known in the neighborhood, will have to go. But she’s hoping she can get the summons stayed, and in the meantime obtain a survey of the property, and apply for a variance for the carport/yacht stern.

“We really would like to keep the boat,” DeLozier said. “That’s his heart, it really is.”

Chic’s Beach is such a cool and funky place and his home fits in perfectly . . . particularly on that street. Though he should have followed the rules, hopefully, there can be minimal adjustments, and the character of the house can remain the same.

11 am-1 pm Hikers needed; dogs on leash welcome (please wear hiking shoes and bring hiking stick/backpack/binoculars as props if you have them.)

2 pm-4 pm Bikers needed (please wear helmet; mountain bikes and beach cruisers welcome)

4:30pm-6:30pm Beach Go-ers needed; Family groups if possible; dogs on leash welcome (please bring beach umbrella, raft, floaties, sand buckets, towels, beach blankets as props if you have them.)

Vandalism on PHP

Certainly “grown ups” can’t be responsible for this.

From an email:

The past two weeks we have seen an elevated amount of vandalism at Pleasure House Point. The two dog boxes were ripped from their signs, along the two Marlin Bay trails, last week. We installed new ones and I inspected the site yesterday and found that the same occurred again. Last week we found that a household kitchen bag was dumped on a trail. Mail within the bag was addressed to (redacted). Yesterday, along the same trail I found four very large bags dumped on the trail. I removed the litter and pulled the dog boxes out of the woods from where they were thrown and placed them beside the posts from which they were installed. At this point we are discussing which dog boxes to reinstall. A police report was given and I have a case number pertaining to the issue.

I wanted to keep you posted as well as possibly ask if you wouldn’t mind mentioning something about this in your next OPCL Newsletter.

Please let me know if you need other information or anything on our end. I appreciate your assistance in this matter.

Ocean Park to get sand now. Chic’s Beach in a few years.

A similar project will add about 200,000 cubic yards of sand at Ocean Park Beach when the Army Corps of Engineers later this year works to clear sand that’s built up in the Lynnhaven Inlet, Roehrs said.

A major beach restoration project for Chic’s Beach also is in the works, although it might take a few years to start while the city obtains agreements from waterfront property owners ensuring public access to the shore, Roehrs said.
