Minutes:

1.        President Todd Solomon (Cape Story) called the meeting to order at 7:30pm.  Nineteen members and guests were present.

An article on the front page of the Virginian-Pilot today discussed in detail the finding of SOD in Hampton Roads and the plans to determine if it exists beyond 2 nurseries.

But Duck-In and The Beach Club , which sit on one of the area?s most admired and coveted parcels of land, will exist only in memory after Aug. 14, 2005.

Come Join Starbucks & the SDCC for the Adopt-A-Highway Shore Drive Clean-Up on Saturday morning September 25th!

The Shore Drive Community Coalition Annual Oyster Roast will be held Sunday October 3rd at the Duck-In Beach Club. The SDCC is comprised of 22 civic leagues from Cape Henry to Little Creek Amphibious base on Shore Drive. Proceeds will be donated to local community groups (i.e. Cox High School clubs, Lynnhaven River 2007 and the local volunteer rescue squads).

District Fire Chief, Robert Alley, was to talk to us about the status of the construction of the new fire station at the corner of Shore Drive and Sunstates Court.  The Chief was not able to make this meeting and will be rescheduled for a future meeting or may provide a written report that we can email to all interested parties.

Beach residents offered a simple reason in a survey last year why they don?t bicycle more: They don?t feel safe.

?Virginia Beach is just not a good place to bike,? said Fred Adams, a member of the Tidewater Bicycle Association.

Sorry for the late notice – the Shore Drive Advisory Committee is meeting today 3:30pm at the Bayside Rec Center.

Civic Leagues proposing change to R-5R zoning ordinance.

The North End Civic League along with the Chesapeake Beach Civic League have put together the attached proposal to modify the current R-5R zoning requirements. 

The powerpoint presentation shown here was informally presented to a City ordinance representative for comments in May.

The SDCC Oyster Roast Committee is looking for several good pictures of past SDCC Oyster Roasts to use in an advertising spot to be aired on cable TV. 

The pictures will be used as background and pop up items during a brief ad promoting this year’s event.

Kathleen Unser, Manager of the Shore Drive Starbucks, talked to us about Starbuck’s interest in the environment and how SDCC and Starbucks might work together on projects of common interest in our area.

On June 8, the City of Virginia Beach Department of Planning launched the first phase of an online building permit and inspection tool available via the city’s Web site, VBgov.com. This phase of the project allows citizens and business-people to inquire about the status of a building permit and view inspection results, as well as browse by permit address or contractor.

On Tuesday May 18th I was fortunate enough to be invited to attend a Joint Logistics Over The Sea (JLOTS) demonstration at Fort Story.  It was an opportunity of a lifetime from which I gained much respect for the operations and ability of the soldiers right in our back yard.  The following are some of the photos taken during the event.
