Also – it looks like City Council will be voting in March or April to permanently preserve Pleasure House Point forever.

  1. We have been informed by the city that Vice Mayor Jones and Councilman Wood have submitted a resolution to remove Maple Street as a potential transfer site for the Neighborhood Dredging Program. This is a significant redirection from the city. This resolution is scheduled to be voted upon at City Council meeting 28 February. I am not sure what the final resolution will look like after other Council members provide their inputs. It may be altered, reworded, or not accepted as ready for a Council vote. Much can happen, but we will just have to watch it very carefully. I welcome the removal of Maple Street as a transfer site for the Neighborhood Dredging Program. This is not the same as the maintenance dredging program to keep Long Creek clear. The maintenance dredging program occurs every 4-5 years and hydraulically deposits beach grade sand at the Maple Street retaining area. This is beach grade sand, not muck, and comes from Long Creek. These distinctions are important. Please come out to the City Council meeting at 6 PM, Bldg 1 at the municipal center on 28 February. It would be good to let the other City Council members, Mayor and staff know that we are most interested in this resolution, its wording, and the preservation of Maple Street and surrounding neighborhoods.

    Sincerely,
    David
