Bayfront Vision meeting scheduled for Tues, Nov 15th

The next scheduled meeting for regarding the Bayfront Vision group will be held this Tuesday November 15, 2005 at 6:00pm in 3556 by the Bay.

The meeting will be held in their 2nd floor meeting room.  Limited parking is available on site (in front and around the right side).  Additional parking is available across the road in the City boat ramp area.  Don’t park in Jimmy’s restaurant spots or in the boat trailer area.  All other spots are acceptable even if the signage is confusing.  You can also park on the street in the Ocean Park area.

Andrew B., Ocean Park

So has the city made protocol such that every area who wants improvements must form lobbyist groups who must spend countless hours discussing and belaboring the same stories with city leaders.

City Hall wants to designate the Lynnhaven River a ?no discharge zone? for boat sewage

Chalmers, an avid boater himself, met face to face with many of the skeptics and, after explaining the benefits and realities of a designation, he said, ?I don?t know anyone who?s really against this now.?

The effort is part of a strategy to rid all human-borne bacteria from the Lynnhaven.

Lesner Bridge Updates

Heather Ham, Project Manager of the new Lesner Bridge, sent an update today.
Thank you Heather!

Tim,
The following is a brief timeline of the Lesner Bridge Project.

Bayvista ownership update

Rumor has it, Bayvista being built next to Don Julio’s and the Chesapeake House, has been owned for several weeks by Steve Ballard with Wayne McLeskey’s involvement as well.

Mr. Stanley Tseng is no longer involved in the project.

Detailed traffic safety info received from Senior Traffic Engineer

The following detailed report was received from Mike Shahsiah, P.E. in reference to feedback received from the meeting from Monday evening concerning traffic safety issues on Shore Drive.

As a [result] of updating and evaluating these accident reports every year, we have identified, scheduled, and completed, and proposed several traffic safety and capacity improvement projects along Shore Drive since then.

Citywide Civic Event

To all Bayfront Residents,

If you haven’t heard already, a Citywide Civic event is planned for this Saturday at the new convention center.  There will be an excellent opportunity for associations and residents to talk one-on-one with City staff regarding specific neighborhood issues.  Some of the items that will be covered are:

Traffic Safety/Engineering
Crime Prevention
Neighborhood Crime Issues
Clean Communities
Fire Prevention/Issues
Code Enforcement
Mayor’s Youth Council
Public Information Office (FOIA)

And the list goes on.

This event is free to the residents and should not be missed.

Please contact Suzi Thompson at the below email if you are interested.

See you there,

Todd Solomon
Cape Story / SDCC – President

Todd written up in this issue of Beach Magazine

Terrific article about Todd by Betsy McBride in this issue of Beach Magazine just delivered to your mailbox.

Solomon says that “more work is needed to get better communication with the city.” …“I think it can be easily fixed.”

53 at 85%, 35 or 45 ?! Perceptions, miscommunication and finally pedestrian safety

The SDCC Meeting last night was informative to say the least.

Thank you to our two Councilmen, two Police Officers, 2 Traffic Engineers and Public Works official who attended the meeting last night, entertained our lengthy questions and brought us up to date on what’s been worked on, and planned for, to improve Shore Drive Safety issues.

When “you” ask about Shore Drive and why it’s ok for 85% of drivers to travel at 54 MPH, what part of Shore Drive are you talking about, and what part is Traffic Engineering, The Mayor and City Manager talking about?

An email about the latest tragic pedestrian deaths on Shore Drive

The following email is from someone on the scene when three people were attempting to cross Shore Drive at C.P.Shuckers the evening two were killed.

Dredge that sunk last week recovered

You may have heard, or even saw that the dredge that was working north of the Lesner Bridge last week sunk.

According to an article in Pilotonline.com it’s been recovered.
