The planned program topic for this month’s general meeting will be “VB 2007 – Celebrating 400 years of History”.  Mr. Mac Rawls, Chairman of the VB 2007 Steering Committee, will present Virginia Beach’s plan to participate in this event. 

City Council members unanimously agree that a proposal to condemn and buy homes around Oceana Naval Air Station is dead.

Apparently the Resort and Conference Center would like to build a Gazebo on the beach in front of the hotel.

The project goes before the Wetlands Board on Jan 18 and the only issue that we can see right now is a precedence to begin building on the bay side of a primary dune.

After the November General Meeting Program, the SDCC obtained the attached letter (see .PDF file) from the City better explaining a potential course of action for Cape Henry beach replenishment.  This proposal will eventually need community support at the City Council level.

The following ordinance change below, received from the City’s zoning department, is scheduled for review as Item # 5 at the January 12th Planning Commission Meeting. 

Ocean Park, Chesapeake Beach, Cape Story and the North End currently have lots zoned as R5R.  The change is summarized at the end of this ordinance modification write-up.  The Planning Commission meets at 12:00pm in the City Council chambers.

Minutes:
President Todd Solomon called the meeting to order at 7:35 PM.  Thirty-two members and guests were present.

The main event for this meeting was a presentation on Point Chesapeake, the development that is proposed to replace the Duck-In Restaurant and Beach Club.

[FYI, the general meeting is always the last Monday of the month unless that day is a holiday.]

Baylake Pine Civic Meeting = Monday Nov. 22nd
Some of you may find this meeting interesting and wish to attend.  Anyone that used to frequent Bay Billards is asked to attend to give testimonial (good or bad) regarding large pool hall establishments.  Please forward this to you respective civic groups.

A special work session of the Shore Drive Advisory Committee has been scheduled for 3 p.m., Tuesday, November 9, 2004.  The meeting will be held in the Planning Department?s Conference Room, Room 115, Bldg. 2 at 2405 Courthouse Drive at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center. More info.

At the SDAC workshop on September 30th at the Penthouse Room at Westminster Canterbury it was mentioned that the city may be budgeting $1million for Lesner Bridge improvements.

Is that for a process to work toward a 6-lane bridge?
Is it part of a plan to add a pedestrian and bike path to the existing bridge?
Is it part of a plan to renovate the existing bridge?

Give yourselves a big round of applause.  This years Oyster Roast and Hobie Fleet 32 race was a smashing success.  The event drew the largest attendance ever in its four year history.  A total of 437 people attended (393 adults, 23 children and 26 students).  This large number was not achieved by chance.  It was a direct result of hard work by a dedicated group of volunteers.
