From LR2007 Symposium last night Clay Bernick said cleaning up the Lynnhaven River will take about 15 years and likely will cost more than $100 million…the money is needed to pay for modern storm drains, more city staff to enforce environmental rules, more public education and perhaps tougher regulation of pesticides, development and wildlife.

Navy chaplin’s bicycle commute to NAB

First Landing State Park allows public art display
This Saturday, artist Knox Garvin will unveil the results of an artistic journey inspired by a life-long love of nature when he kicks off a temporary public art exhibit featuring a group of five-foot-tall resin sculptures submerged in the Bald Cypress Swamp on the grounds of First Landing State Park in Virginia Beach. It’ll be on display until November 26th. Check it out.

2 car break-ins on Bay Island Thursday evening
Last night, Thursday Nov. 9, two cars belonging to the same family were broken into on Bay Island. The police were notified and a report was taken. Neither car was locked and a purse with credit cards was taken. The credit card company was able to track charge activity to Norfolk and Portsmouth Citgo and BP gas stations, 7-11 stores and finally to an industrial park. No other valuables were taken.

SDAC meeting Thursday, Nov 16h
Next meeting of the Shore Drive Advisory Committee will be held at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, November 16, at the Bayside Community Recreation Center. The center is located on the north side of First Court Road between Shore Drive and Pleasure House Road.

On Election Day at Bayside Rec Center alone, well over 500 signatures were gathered for the No Indigo Dunes Petition.

Collected hundreds of signatures for the No Indigo Dunes Petition this morning at the Polling station I was at.
Also distributed hundreds of the Mini Flyers [1 pg PDF].
Also received a large amount of feedback like “keep up the good work to stop this development”.
No Indigo Dunes petition drive on Election Day, Tues Nov 7th
Dear Shore Drive Residents,
The No Indigo Dunes Petition Committee is looking for volunteers to spend an hour or two at one of the 3 Bayfront polling locations on Tuesday Nov. 7th. gathering signatures.
The polling locations are:
1) Lynnhaven Colony Congregational Church at 2217 W Great Neck Rd Virginia Beach, VA 23451
2) Grace Bible Church at 2961 Shore Drive Virginia Beach, VA 23451
3) Bayside Recreation Center at 4500 First Court Rd Virginia Beach, VA 23455
Traditionally, the most active times at the polls are 7-9am, 11am-1pm, and 5-7pm. Just remember to stay behind the 40 foot boundary that is set up by the poll workers and there won’t be any issues.

396th from Ft Story returning tomorrow, Saturday, Nov.4th about 1pm
The 396th Harbormaster Detachment (396thDet.) from Ft.Story is scheduled to return from one year deployment in IRAQ..this Sat…Nov 4th..coming from Ft. Dix onto Shore Drive from Rt.13 at about 12 noon to 2:00 1pm…times will change of course.
I have already contacted all the business to put up signs..etc & will deliver homemade signs along the route tomorrow. I have coordinated with police/fire depts & they will escort them along the route. There will be one bus plus other army vehicles.
