SDCC General Meeting Monday, September 25th Agenda

Shore Drive Community Coalition (SDCC)- General Meeting, Monday September 25 , 2006, 7:30pm to 9:00pm at Ocean Park Fire & Rescue Hall.

  Indigo Dunes – This month we will continue our discussion of the proposed Indigo Dunes project (Pleasure House Point).  What do the communities think about it?  Have they taken official positions? 

Indigo Dunes Chesepeake Bay Preservation Board hearing for September 25th deferred

Letter [PDF] asking for another deferral for Ches Bay Board hearing. As you may already know, Indigo Dunes is looking for permission to rearrange wetlands on Pleasure House Point for the project.

City’s Media/Communications Group looking for your help!

We are starting to get some information from the police as suggestions for how to be safer on Shore Drive.  Do you have any suggestions we can use for the newsletter and television announcement?

Shore Drive Advisory Committee Meeting on September 21 Cancelled; Next Meeting Scheduled for October

The next meeting of the Shore Drive Advisory Committee, which was tentatively scheduled to be held on Thursday, September 21, has been cancelled.

CBPAB holding site visit on PHP on Thursday morning - public invited

The Chesapeake Bay Preservation Area Board will convene for a site visit on property owned by F. Wayne McCleskey at Marlin Bay Drive, also known as the proposed Indigo Dunes Project, on Thursday, September 14, 2006 at 9:30 a.m.  The public is invited to attend to observe.

Oyster collection for LR2007 a success!

Thanks to all who ate oysters, and shared the shells to help out Lynnhaven River 2007’s project!

They won’t be collecting oyster shells again until January 2007. About the project.

City Council oks additional funding to start Shore Drive improvements between Marlin Bay & First Cou

The City Council approved an additional $826,806 for the first phase of improvements to Shore Drive on Tuesday.

Shellfish harvesting ban in Chesapeake Bay caused by Ernesto

For the 2nd time in state history, harvesting clams or oysters in the entire Chespeake Bay is banned due to a precautionary move stemming from suspected pollutants washing into the Bay from last week’s Tropical Storm Ernesto.

Update on City’s Media/Communications Group re: SDSTF

Diane Roche, of the City’s Media & Communcations Group recently emailed me about the plan to finally start rolling out a media campaign to promote being safer on Shore Drive as recommended in the SDSTF recommendations.

More City budget surplus next fiscal year too!

Hansen reported that Virginia Beach has a surplus of $15 million to $25 million from the fiscal 2006 budget….plus The city’s fiscal 2008 budget – in the planning stages now – is flush with $32.5 million more than expected, thanks to a higher-than-expected increase in property assessments.

Point Chesapeake proposed changes - SDCC request project be sent thru Conditional Use Permit review

Point Chesapeake, the development that went thru the conditional use permit process and was approved for the Duck-In site has changed.

Todd has sent a letter to Bob Scott, the Director of Planning requesting the public review process be started again as the project has in fact changed substantially enough we, the SDCC, feel it appropriate the public should be allowed to legally comment.
