SDCC COMPREHENSIVE VISION MEETING JUNE 22, 2005

1.    This meeting was the first in a proposed series of focus meetings to be held to establish a comprehensive a vision of what the Bayfront Community would like to see along Shore Drive.  Some types of development are just not compatible with the character and residential aspect of this community.  There are many issues that need to be included in such an undertaking.  The agenda for this meeting was limited to three items in order to keep the duration to no more than two hours.

Update -> Sheriff’s office examining plan for proposed Osprey Point Nature Park

Dan talked to Barry Frankenfield this morning and was pleased to find out he sent a plan for Osprey Point to the Sheriff.

Barry emailed to clarify the earlier post today.

Hatchery grown crabs being tagged

Can crabs grown by humans in hatcheries help restore native crab stocks in the Chesapeake Bay?

The tagging program of hatchery grown crabs is in it’s 3rd year.

Baby strapped into a car seat tumble from atop a moving car - survived

Virginia Beach officials released 911 calls on Monday from witnesses who say they saw a baby strapped into a car seat tumble from atop a moving car last Tuesday on Shore Drive.

The baby survived. I can’t imagine witnessing that!

Proposed mixed use development planned for the existing Colley Marine location.  Mr. Bushard will present his plans to build a 3 story structure (lower level parking, retail middle level, condo upper level) on the B-2 lot.  A question and answer session will follow the presentation.  This project will have to apply for a change in zoning to a B-4 for mixed use and then a Conditional Use Permit (CUP).

Update on new shops on the way

According to Tommy Drew of Advantis GVA, only 2 of the 9 retail spaces are not rented at the new Kroger Shops… which is located between Krogers and Hollywood Video.

Howard Johnson’s on Shore Drive held up last night

Virginia Beach police are asking for the public’s help in identifying two suspects wanted in connection with a hotel robbery of the Howard Johnson’s on Shore Drive early Friday morning.
