Tonight, City Council held a Public Comment Hearing on Shore Drive Safety Issues

Thanks to all who attended, about 50 Bayfront residents took the time to head down to City Hall to show their support for at minimum, completely funding the SDSTF recommendations.

Also, a special thanks to the 10 of us who spoke, particularly Nancy Day, who continues to show an incredible amount of strength, serious concern and love for her neighbors.

State moves toward zero discharge from boats in Lynnhaven Inlet

The Department of Environmental Quality says boaters in Broad Bay, Lynnhaven Bay, and Linkhorn Bay will no longer be allowed to dump treated human waste.

Pedestrian struck in Shore Drive/Pleasure House Road area this afternoon

The Police confirmed another pedestrian was hit on Shore Drive this afternoon. Witnesses said it happened near or in front of Wawa.

SDCC General Meeting, Monday, May 22nd at 7:30pm at OPVRS

Shore Drive Community Coalition (SDCC)- General Meeting, Monday   May 22, 2006, 7: 30pm to 9:00pm,  Ocean Park Fire & Rescue Hall.

This month we will use the program time to discuss two key issues that will go before City Council soon.  The Shore Drive Safety Task Force Report(SDSTF) and the Rezoning/Development of the property next to WaWa.  Here are a few questions to think about and discuss.

CBF Aids Court Win to Protect Shoreline

CBF helped secure a major legal victory when the Virginia Supreme Court ruled that Northampton County, Va., can prohibit houses being built within 100 feet of a Chesapeake Bay creek.

Press about Kendall Street sand dune that was gouged out by City bulldozer

Today, the dune looks not much like a dune at all. Where there was a thin ravine created by foot traffic, there is now an 8-foot-wide swath cut through the middle, with steep walls on either side. And bulldozer tracks everywhere.

Intruder in 2500 block of Shore Drive last night

From Regina…

Last night (Tues. May 16) at approximately 10:15 p.m., a resident returned home in the 2400 or 2500 block of Shore Dr. to find a man in his kitchen.  I don’t have many details but the resident apparently was beaten.

SDAC recommendation to the Shore Drive Safety Task Force [SDSTF]

June Barret-McDaniels, P.E. who recently presented the SDSTF Draft Report to SDAC, has forwarded us the SDAC recommendations for the Shore Drive Safety Task Force.

Short-term answer to Shore Drive safety is long-term studies

The budget includes $1 million over two years for selected safety improvements on Shore Drive. By the fall, residents should know whether the money is appropriated for the task force?s recommendations, Meyer said.

Old “Trolley Lane” explained

At the recent SDAC Meeting one of the comments indicated that a multipurpose trail could be developed in the old “Trolley Lane” along Shore Drive; and, that the Parks and Recreation Project to build a trail in the “Trolley Lane” area has been delayed.

Planning Commission recommends approving 77 units for property next to Wawa

The Planning Commission, this past Wednesday, approved Ocean Properties request to build 77 units on property currently zoned to have, lets just say, much less.

Bush to be in our neighborhood next week

Bush will attend a $5,000-per-person lunch reception May 19 at the home of Eleanor and Bob Stanton on First Court Road , according to an invitation obtained by The Virginian-Pilot.
