VB School Zone Speed Cameras Activate Tuesday February 17th

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Automated cameras will soon be activated around several Virginia Beach City Public Schools, the city confirmed.

In partnership with Altumint, the cameras are being installed at the following school zones: Red Mill Elementary School, Centerville Elementary School and Great Neck Middle School/John B. Dey Elementary School. A spokesperson for the City of Virginia Beach said cameras in those three areas should be activated Tuesday, February 17, weather permitting.

Drivers violating the speed limit will be mailed a ticket and fine after an initial 30-day warning zone.

The city plans to implement camera monitoring at additional school zones in the 2026-2027 school year.

The School Speed Zone Camera Enforcement Program’s initiative is to promote changes in driving behaviors and raise awareness on the impacts of speed-related crashes in school zones, work areas and residential communities.
